There were a lot of one star reviews, but I decided to chance it. Of course, like almost every rod shipped by pennoutlet.com, it came in beat up. I carefully, or so I thought, inspected rod and saw no problems. The rod was for my son and I didn't get it to him for a couple of months. When he was running the line through the eyelets, he noticed that one was popped loose from blank, as can be seen in pics. He builds rods as a hobby, occasionally, and said it looks like there is no thread, just epoxy. I would have expected the eyelet to have been bent over, as has happened in the past, due to bad packaging, but not popped loose from the blank. Not impressed for the price.

  • Great reel and a blast catching fish with the 2500. Indian River Lagoon area, Fl. Turns a battle with a 5lb redfish into a real challenge! I also have a 3000 and a 4000. Mounted on Star Seagis rods. Absolutely great set ups for Inshore fishing The Indian River Lagoon/ Mosquito Lagoon area. Over the last few years, Penn has really stepped their game up. I also have a couple of Penn Slammer III reels too. Great quality reels! Rinse them after each use especially if fishing in saltwater, oil and grease as needed and you'll have a great, dependable reel(s) for many years to come. My humble collection of Penn reels and yes, even some Penn rods. I used to be on Star Rods pro staff so I do have a few Star Rods as well...

This is my favorite reel for rock season! I have a number of Penn Rods and Reels but this one by far is my best one. Super smooth to reel and great quality!

Awesome reel. The freespool was so smooth, and the drag lever was easily adjusted and hold the settings well. Never caught a fish on it yet but I used it heavily this year. Will get the big brother next! Hold 600yrds of 100lb threadlock

Have used the rod and works well. Very lite with good backbone. Only issue is that the picture shows a index finger foregrip which is what I really wanted but rod doesn't have that.

For the price, the whole package looks great. Unfortunately, the rod arrived with issues on the guides. The coating on the guides is either inconsistent or cracked. I thought about returning it, but I have trip coming up. I'll just figure out how to clean up the guides and try it out.

Great fishing pole but arrived with a gash in the handle which I am pretty upset about since this was supposed to be a brand new pole. The damage had to of happened during fulfillment or before packaging due to the box arriving untouched and well put together. Not sure why they couldn’t do a quality check before sending out their product but I will think twice about ordering their product now.

There is nothing I dislike about the rod just noticed the tip has become worn after one months use with 30 lb mono. Should I replace the tip?

This cover only fits a GT320GTI if the GT320GTI has no line on it and is NOT attach to a fishing rod. Most fisherman want/need a cover that covers their reel when transporting to fishing destination. This means - the Reel is mounted ON the rod and the line is fed through the eyes of the fishing pole. This cover does NOT offer this protection as mentioned above. Next time I'm going to go with the LARGER model. Maybe this way I will be able to leave the Reel on the Rod with line fed out. Shimano and the other cover manufactures (Jaws) accomplish it with no problem at all. Their covers accommodate the "line" travel with a cut-out. With Penn, you're going to have to "slit" part of the cover for the line that feeds out through the eyes of the rod. Or your cover will not sit correctly on reel. Attached pictures show comparison between Penn (black cover) and "Jaws" (Blue cover - another manufacture). Notice the special cut in the Jaws model for line travel on the fishing pole. On the Penn reel there is no such special cut, it probably will not last that long.

Went tuna fishing and while playing the second fish an under 10 poung yellow fin the rod snapped !!! The rod (still in the wrapper and using for the first time )was not under that much pressure and the fish was taking line off the reel. Obviously a design fault in this rod it should have never broke in those circumstances

Work overseas and had to send to my location after shipping it home. Their are scratches on it not related to shipping but now that my return window has closed I am stuck with a product I paid over 600.00 for and it is scatched up. Would like to return or have item discounted.
