Excellent reels bought another one caught several fish with this reel

Picked up this reel for a trip to fish Tuna. This is my third Penn reel. I used a scale to set my drag at about 16 lbs and and loaded it with 50 lb braided line. Used this the other day on a full day fishing trip for Tuna and was my primary rig. My 20 lb line setup wasn't up to par, as the fish broke my leader line. So I stuck with this reel and a 40 lb leader. Brought in 2 skipjack and a yellowfin.

The drag worked well. The fish actually pulled out my line easily, they were good fighters. I had it in the strike position and still pulled like heck. I did back off the drag setting on the boat as I felt I had too much drag. The full drag feature works great, as I threw it in full drag and pulled those Tuna to the boat!

Rod and reel look perfect and they are except for one thing: the line catches on the open bail during a hard cast and closes it mid-flight, especially if there is any wind from the left. This either results in a very short cast with the bait and weight flying back at you, or the weight snaps the line. The only way to avoid it happening is to rotate the open bail to the left before casting. My reel is wound with 20 lb braid. I don't know if it happens with mono line. It's a real pain.
Update: the rod tip broke after several weeks use. Won't buy the combo again.

Great combo and value. Rods are sturdy with good feel, reels are smooth and hold plenty of line.

I have to give the product a 5-star rating because it is a nice quality rod and reel combo. My problem was that I didn't know what I was buying. I'm not a fisherman. I was buying it for my father for Christmas. I wanted to find a really nice quality rod and reel as a gift. The reviews were good for this one so I went for it. I didn't know how huge and heavy this rod and reel would be. I didn't know that this rod and reel is primarily for people who are fishing out in the ocean off of their boat. It's not meant for someone who likes to fish at a marina. You really have to mount this on a boat because it's too heavy to hold up by itself. So, if you know what you want and this is it then I do recommend it.
