Rods
I read several reviews of another reel cleaner stating that when applied to fishing rods, it dulled the finish. This would be a mini disaster for me since I just purchased new rods and reels.
After posting a question on pennoutlet.com about this issue and being assured it was safe, I used it: Liberally sprayed it directly on the rods and guides and then wiped them down. Works great. No dulling of the luster. And the oily coating, by all reports, will protect against salt water corrosion, and, if anything, will preserve the luster.
Did the same on my reels. Happy with the result. I plan to treat all my new gear with this product, since all the reviews seem to indicate it will keep the gear looking new.
UPDATE 11/3/19: I'm using it on all my fishing rods now. They actually look shinier with the Penn Cleaner, and I've read nothing but good reports about this product and that it keeps gear looking nice for years.
Cheap but essential product for keeping my reel safe.
10' Med Heavy used to catch perch and stripped bass. Using 40lb braid. Break down is 50/50, the reel eyelets are nice and look sturdy. This pole sales at Bass Pro and other sporting good stores, while pennoutlet.com has it for $30 bux cheaper. Mated it with a 5000/6000 series reel and it works out nicely. Butt end grip is small diameter and feels good when you grip it. Rated for 1-5 oz lure.
Good for bottom fishing, Carolina rigging with 1oz weights, or casting a tandem rig with 1/4 oz jig head or live shrimp under a heavy cork. Not good for casting lighter baits like a single 1/4 oz jig head with a three inch paddle tail. Back lash ever time.
Bought Penn US113N for use on my boat locally (Puget Sound) and for my travel arsenal. For travel I matched it up with a two piece Ugly Stik (BWC2201270). First trip with it was to Sea of Cortez where we had it loaded with 250 yards of 40 lb Ande Pink. We used this outfit as our ballyhoo casting rig when sailfish got into the trolling spread. It performed well and we landed (and released) three sailfish with this outfit. Was very effective for the 80 to 100 lb sailfish we landed. For larger fish braid backing will be required to increase the spool capacity as 250 yards seemed to be lower limit of line needed for the quarry we we hunting. Overall great reel and I am expecting to keep it in the arsenal for a long time.
