Pêche en mer tropicale bon moulinet.

I just ordered a Penn 60N Generation II on pennoutlet.com for an October 2023 trip and saw a YouTube video by Charkbait from 2022 entitled “the good, the bad, and the ugly.”. The presenter raves about all the Penn Fathom 2 speed reels except for the Penn Fathom 60N. The presenter says the Fathom 60N does not free-spool well at all when fishing 80 pound braid and setting drag at 25 or 30 pound. Decent free-spool is essential when dropping a knife jig down to bluefin tuna in 300 foot water depths. The problem is not an pennoutlet.com problem and it isn’t an pennoutlet.com customer problem. The problem is a Penn Reel problem exclusively. Hopefully Penn has resolved this free-spool issue by 7/2023.
Update: I took this reel out on a 3 day trip out of San Diego during 10/23. The reel had amazing free spool when dropping 300 to 400 gram lures with 100 pound braid and100 feet 80 pound mono top shot. I even landed a small 20 lb bluefin tuna with this reel. I’d have to say this reel worked flawlessly. I’d recommend buying one.
Well first off, I'll admit that I'm relatively new when it comes to conventional reels, having stuck to spinners throughout my freshwater and short saltwater career. Upon the recommendation of my girlfriend's father, I took to this reel because in his experience he expressed that it was simple, durable and easy to use once you got your thumb trained. He was right. This thing has stood up to 3-hrs straight of fishing for Bluefish off of a party boat as well as casting into the surf, so far. The drag is nice and smooth and easy to adjust. The clicker is also loud and easy to switch on/off when you get a bite. Casting is pretty smooth with some practice. Best of all, what I hear from experienced fisherman, is that this thing is better off than comparable reels with a "level-wind" system. Why? Because that's always the first component to go under strain. So, in closing, this reel is a good, versatile and an economical option for the $65 price tag, considering that it'll last you a couple of decades if you take care of it and there are original parts as well as conversion kits available. My girl's dad still has the first one he bought in the 80's still running on the same drag washers, that's saying something as to the quality of this reel considering that he's used for everything from blue-fishing to tile-fishing.
I just love my penn reel. I have 2 of the fierce lll reels. Both have different line for fishing. Their is nothing bad about these reels. Performance is second to none. Great for a beginner to pro. And the best part is with a flip of the switch it instantly becomes a live bate feeder.
