Excellent reel

Squall 50 level wind and 6’6 rod combo,Fishing for grouper and snapper in NE Fl , put 80 lb braid and been very successful, love the level wind , as anyone who uses it know without level wind the braid will cut you to bone if you are trying to even out spool and fish runs , had extremely large Goliath grouper coming to boat then he spit the bait , a 10 lb Amberjack that had ate my bait then got eaten, reeled in a crushed and scale AJ, this is a lightweight and strong combo

Worked perfect with 10lb braid for chasing reds on the flats. Drag is very smooth

Great reel for the money, and its a Penn. i have landed some great fish from the surf with this reel. This is a work truck get it done kind of reel, if you are looking for a lariate with all the bells and whistles you wont be happy with this reel. You have to work it, no level wind, star drag, you have to think. Would buy another!

Make sure you order a size up - I order a large for a Penn Squall 50 VSW and it was TIGHT. I ordered the XL and it fit perfectly, I can have the cover on with the reel on the rod with going through the guides.
