This reel is awesome it works well with the fishing rod I built. For saltwater fishing rinse your rods and reels off after you use them and re grease and oil them once a year. The 2500 does what I need. It is a basic reel that I can put 8lb fluorocarbon or light braid on. I fish both fresh and salt water. Great reel for inshore fishing.

The only reel I have ever had you can drop in saltwater a rinse off and still be good. Only a few of the Penns have sealed bearings and this is one of them. I kayak fish and that is a big deal to me so i spend the money. I have 5 in all the sizes and use them weekly, and they give me no issues. I have caught some big red fish on these reels. I will buy more when these wear out and use the old ones for parts.

Good thing I tested out the anti reverse feature. I'm very careful with rod and reels because I hate any scratched on my stuff. So after I put some line on the reel and mount it on my rod I tested out the functions. Anti reverse is broken! I was advised by vendor to contact manufacturer. Who has time for all that? Going back to Shimano

A great reel, particularly for this price. Very versatile and with easy maintenance it will last decades. I have many Penn reels and this one has not disappointed me. I also like the classic look of the Senator reels. The reel feels very solid when mounted and is quite smooth when in use. The drag is easy to set and quite sufficient. Try one and pass it down to your kids or grandkids--it'll last that long.
