   I paired it with a daiwa BG 5000 It’ll definately take misuse to cause any kind of damage to this rod It’s a broomstick !!! Nice and beefy Edit : the gimbal cover falls off very easy and the insert fell out of the top eyelet I use but not abuse my rods I take extra care when transporting and fighting fish so I have no idea why the insert came out Granted it happens Dropping my rating due to customer service with not only the seller via this rod but also penn themselves when trying to find a replacement for the insert and gimbal cover I’ve got mine setup for catching turtles from ponds and catfishing from my kayak It being shorter makes it more manageable while in a kayak

   I bought two. It took a couple of returns to get two undamaged rods but overall I am pleased. The triangulator foregrip is comfortable. I paired them with Diawa BG60’s and spooled with Powerpro 50# braid. They work great for jigging tuna and the gimbal butt is good for trolling stripers in the fall. For $40 you can’t beat this rod!!

   This is a beefy rod! I ordered the heavy action, and I can’t wait to try it out. The grip is a little thicker than the other rods I have and its triangle shaped. I think it will be comfortable fighting a big one. My heart sank when the ups guy delivered it because the box was 2 pieces and taped in the middle. The tape had lost its hold on the cardboard and the box was hanging together by a thread, but the rod was fine. Going to order another in a medium heavy next.

   Love it. Love Penn products. Love pennoutlet.com. I always use Uglystiks, but I bought a small real, a 4000 so I figured I’d pick up this Mariner iii 30-50lbs rod. I live the triangular EVA grips and butt gimbal. It’s only 6.6ft but good for boat fishing. It arrived boxed and secured with snap ties and wrapped in plastic. No damage to eyelets. Perfect and box had no damage. The bottom half of rod is red and upper half is black. Very close to ugly Stik in quality. I think the tip may be just a touch stiffer than Uglystik. Over all, awesome war-stick. I bought the Northshore fishing rod protective sleeve for it also. Use them on all my rods. Neoprene. You’ll love them. 52” fits 6.6ft perfect. Now get off the couch and go hook some lip. 😉 happy fishing…

    The rod is great, I’ll use it later this month for probably lingcod. Had issues with one seller, packaging was makeshift and had holes, rod came broken. Ordered again from a different seller and they sent it in an actual cardboard tube and it arrived undamaged.

    Still a couple of months until fishing season but this rod looks good. Well made. One thing I like if the grip. Its not round, more triangle shape so to me its easier to keep it oriented the way you want. Not a big deal but it seems like a good idea. The packaging was pretty good. It looked like it had been through a war zone but the rod was in good shape inside the box. It was packed with a sort of right angled piece of heavy cardboard inside the box.
