I like the size and play I get for even small fish. I mostly fish in a sound off a dock.

Good thing I tested out the anti reverse feature. I’m very careful with rod and reels because I hate any scratched on my stuff. So after I put some line on the reel and mount it on my rod I tested out the functions. Anti reverse is broken! I was advised by vendor to contact manufacturer. Who has time for all that? Going back to Shimano

I have bought several of these reels over the years in various sizes and all of them still work perfectly. Good price too. They operate smoothly with strong smooth drag and the are also light weight. Will buy again. they make good gifts for my buddies too.

One of the few spinning reels on the market that has an all metal body. That makes for a very tough reel!

I have 5 of these reels in various sizes, and 2 of those with the live liner feature. They are solid, smooth operating reels. I think it would be difficult to find a better reel in this price range.

I have the 4000 and 8000 live liner model. I Haven’t tested the 8000 yet, but the 4000 is awesome. I wanted a smaller set up to cast in the surf while my larger set ups were soaking. The local bait shop guy in Hilton Head, SC said I can’t go wrong with the Penn 4000 combo. I put 30 pound braid with a 20 pound, 25 yard top shot on it. For whatever reason, that 4000 always lands the biggest fish. I’ll have ten foot surf rods with Avets and Slammers, but for some reason, they always hit my little Fierce 400. I’ve landed up to 25 pound sharks with it, it’s a fight, but the reel delivers. I don’t go inshore boat fishing with it, but I could. Maybe it will fall apart next year, but I’ve owned it for 6 years, I do the maintenance and it delivers.
