   They really need to fix their packaging on this item. I ended up spending more time on the return packaging then they did on the original packaging. Had to return like 2 of these because the reel was damaged in shipping or the rod was all scratched up. Works like a dream once you actually get a nice one.

   Warning: You get an unwrapped reel in a cardboard box. No Penn box, paperwork, warranty info, user paperwork….nothing. Nada, nil, zilch, zero. Just a reel, stuffed in a shipping box with nothing else but a piece of bubble wrap. Rod comes in a nice tube, but still, nothing but a small tag on an eyelet. Every Penn I’ve ever bought over to the years comes in a Penn box, with all the necessary and obligatory paperwork, (even a 309m I bought earlier this week on pennoutlet.com). You may as well walk into Wally world and by some bargain-basement rig for as cheap as you can get. Apparently, Penn & or this seller provide you with less for buying both a Penn rod and a Penn reel rather than just a reel. Lesson learned. Caveat emptor.

   Guaranteed this pole makes it’s way onto the boat or in the car for every single fishing trip I go on!!! I purchased the 7′, medium fast rod and it can literally do it all (inshore, offshore, boat, surf). The graphite composite rod is lightweight for all day use in the ocean and does not exhaust my arms, but still heavy and strong to pull in a 15 lb fish. My typical use is in the bay for fluking and it works great! I am always bringing home some dinner for the family!! The full metal body reel is incredibly smooth with carbon fiber drag washers. Be sure you rinse it throughly with fresh water after returning to the dock as the saltwater will cause corrosion if left to sit. I have purchased a number of more expensive rod and reel combos that are not nearly as good quality as this Penn III for the price. You will not be disappointed in the durability, versatility and ability to reel in the biggest catch in your group! Worth the money a hundred times over and will absolutely be buying another to add to my collection soon. The cork handle is a wonderful addition for added comfort and grip, plus it looks really nice!

   i think this is probably the worst experience i’ve ever encountered with an item sent by pennoutlet.com before. PLEASE take this as a warning and buy in-person or a trusted online seller instead of dealing with this disappointment. firstly, the rod and reel was shipped in a BAG. not in a package box or enveloped securely in protective wrap, just straight up shoved in a plastic bag. when my dad took it out he noticed that the bail was severely bent out of shape. he was able to somewhat fix it but he shouldn’t have to for it to work (and it could’ve been prevented if shipping wasn’t so awful). the kicker though was the rod itself. we went to the beach to test it out and literally the first swing my dad did it BROKE in half. in front of so many people. how does that happen??? my dad owns many penn rods, have swung them the same and none have crumbled like this. i’m assuming this is a return or a very faulty product. i HIGHLY suggest not buying from the penn store on pennoutlet.com to save yourselves the embarrassment. seeing my dad excited only for him to not even get to use it was so terrible to see.

   I’ve bought two of these over the past two past weeks. One came perfect, the 2nd one seems used. I already had line on it before looking the rod over or I’d return. I love this setup and planned on adding more to my surf arsenal until this snag. Shipper/seller, please reach out – I’ll adjust my review if a remedy can be achieved.

   Really enjoyed fishing with this rod, it has a really nice bend to it and due to its flexibility can cast really far. I mostly used it for popping, jigging, shark fishing and trolling, where it provided great sensitivity along with great control over the fish. I also want to comment on the durability of the rod, over the two weeks I could fish I threw this rod around, not cleaning it at all and the reel is running as smooth as it was when I got it. Overall this rod is very versatile and can be used for anything from jigging to casting. I recommend NOMAD PANDERRA 8X BRAID LINE(50 or 65lb) as is used this braid to catch a 18 kg barracuda. Also the lure weight on the rod is from 20 t0 65 g I believe could be a bit higher.

    The one I got was a bit bigger and heavier than I expected for pier fishing. I wish I got a smaller one, but hopefully it will be a perfect fit when I return to fresh water fishing. Aside from that, quality and rod were great for the price point.

    While I only visit the beach once a year I was getting tired of ruining my bass reels with the harsh saltwater that I would always neglect to rinse off after each trip. I’d hate to know how many reels I ruined. I finally decided to buy a saltwater combo and I am so glad that I did! This thing is a beast! The reel is smooth and the drag is the best I’ve seen. I like this combo so much that I use it back home for bass and catfish.

    Caught a 40lb and a 25lb amber Jack slow pitch jigging with this outfit. I was the only one out of 3 to catch fish. Would highly recommend. The rod was bent in a tight U and didn’t break.

    I love this combo. Great set up for a great price. I purchased two of these light action 6’6” combos. Only problem is, I have broken both rods (tip) so far while fishing. One was while dealing with a snag. I can say that was my fault. I should have been more careful and gentle. But this morning I broke the second rod reeling in a decent bass. Some may say user error. I say these rods are overly delicate and should be more durable. Well, time to shop for another rod. The Penn Battle reel is a trooper. Love this small reel. If pennoutlet.com or Penn would like to send me a replacement rod I would appreciate it😇. I am not able to find just the rod for purchase. It is out of the return window as I purchased this last one in October 2024. All in all, I am still a Penn loyalist when it comes to their reels.
