   Received the rod today. Upon initial inspection the epoxy had bubbles in it around all the guides. When putting the reel on, the tensioner to tighten the reel down separated from the collar. Had to superglue it. Overall should not affect functionality but this Penn rod does not look like the quality I got on another Penn Battalion purchased a few days ago at a big box store.

   I could not think of a better way to break in a new rod and reel combo than a trip to South Pass, Venice, LA. We landed bull red after bull red after bull red. The Penn Battalion II rod took all the abuse these brutes could throw. The Battalion II MH casting rod paired with the new Squall LP bait caster was a perfect set up for this area. I really like the locking reel seat. The fast action tip helps with making long casts and still has enough backbone to land the big ones.

    I bought 2 of these poles and both of them broke when I was fishing. A small 1 1/2 fish broke these poles. Expected better from Penn. I will never buy another fishing pole from them.
