I run a charter boat and use these Reels well they daily basis for many different things… I troll them inshore For king mackerel 40 to 60 pounds, I troll them nearshore for Mahi & skipjack, & I use them offshore for White Marlin. I spool them with 25 lb high vis yellow or orange suffix with a 28 ft 60 lb flourocarbon leader and the strike set at 6lbs drag. I have had these reels handle several 50-60lb yellowfin tuna & even a 350 + lb blue Marlin. Would I like to have the Shimano tyrnos? Yes. But these do the job and I can afford them.

Lever drag is really nice when jigging. Much easier to just drag up/down than clicking and and out of gear with level wind . Penn fathoms are really smooth and better quality materials than lower models, not plastic. Caught 40# halibut last week, drag works nicely

I have the 60ld spooled with 100lb braid. So far I have caught one small bonito and two 25-30lb dorados. The reel has held up great other than a small grinding noise after the last fishing trip. I think it is partially because of the guy that used it. He piled up the line on one side of the reel, but it seems to still be working fine other than the noise. I set the drag at 20lbs for the strike and I have not had to go above strike as of yet. Still waiting to test it against a big tuna or marlin, but I have no doubt it will hold up just fine. I recently topped it with 100 yds of 80lb mono to make things easier with tangles so more to come. If you are on a budget this reel will do the job for very nicely for anything 100lbs and below. I highly recommend it!

Great Reel, this is my 2nd purchase of the same reel as it worked flawless on my last tuna fishing trip out of San Diego, CA. I liked my 1st reel so much I decided to purchase a second. Only drawback is it is made in China and not in the USA like the Avet reels. If you are looking for a reliable reel that gets the job done and doesn’t break the bank, then this is the reel for you. the Lever Drag is great as it’s low profile keeps out of the way of the line. The rings inside the reel are nice too as you can tell how much line you have left on the reel. I put 390 yards of P Line 30lb test monofilament on it and it was more than enough to handle the Tuna. I wanted to stick with the same model and brand reel on both of my rods to keep consistent with the function of the reel. I have seen too many fish lost due to thinking you have one reel and you have a different reel and the functions are different. Remember if you want to catch fish then don’t bring bananas on the boat!!

I am an OG spinning reel guy. I got this for boat, pier, and bridge fishing. I can’t cast it 100 yards, but I can get it where I want it without a bird’s nest. It’s some kind of miracle!

My last reel broke so I got this one instead of some ridiculously priced reel from a different company. Super easy to use and caught some decent size fish with it.

Picked up this reel for a trip to fish Tuna. This is my third Penn reel. I used a scale to set my drag at about 16 lbs and and loaded it with 50 lb braided line. Used this the other day on a full day fishing trip for Tuna and was my primary rig. My 20 lb line setup wasn’t up to par, as the fish broke my leader line. So I stuck with this reel and a 40 lb leader. Brought in 2 skipjack and a yellowfin.
The drag worked well. The fish actually pulled out my line easily, they were good fighters. I had it in the strike position and still pulled like heck. I did back off the drag setting on the boat as I felt I had too much drag. The full drag feature works great, as I threw it in full drag and pulled those Tuna to the boat!
